Very accurate castings can be produced using vacuum sand moulds. These are comparable with high-pressure die casting but at very much lower cost. A sand mould pattern is used.
The advantages of vacuum sand moulds in foil are:
- Accurate castings with accurate tolerances
- No draft necessary
- Thin walls possible, up to 2 mm
- Available in small numbers, from dozens to hundreds per year
- Very good surface quality
- Low pattern costs
